The Sadducees were one of four important religious groups that dominated Israel in the days of Jesus Christ.

The Sadducees were the most powerful sect within Judaism at the time of Christ. Unlike the Pharisees, they sought political power by aligning themselves with the Roman government. Their pro-Hellenistic stance made the "status quo" establishment. The Sadducees did not agree with the Pharisees in many theological matters. (Ex. The Sadducees did not believe in a future resurrection of the righteous.)
