In this interview, Arshan caught up with Los Angeles rapper, D Savage, during KTO’s most recent trip to LA. D Savage first gained notoriety in 2016 for songs he was uploading on SoundCloud, like “30 Round Clip”. He followed that song with singles like “Emotionless” and “Kame In”, before dropping his debut mixtape, D Phoenix, in October 2018. The project had appearances from Lil Yachty, Ty Dolla $ign and Yung Bans. In 2019, D. Savage released his debut studio album, Trust No One, with standout tracks like “Racks on Me”, “Pill”, & “WYTD”. He released a follow up album in 2021, titled, BPL, with features from Matt Ox, Tony Shhnow, K Suave, & Trippie Redd. Recently, D Savage dropped his 3rd album, Mafia Musik, in February of 2023, featuring tracks like “Kome On”, “Joker Pt2”, & “Klosure”.
Arshan & D Savage start their conversation discussing rappers blowing off interviews & being unprofessional. They talk about D Savage’s song “Kome On”, how he’s evolving his sound, and making music he actually enjoys personally. D Savage mentions that he can’t stand listening to his early music, before talking about his newest album, Mafia Musik. He reveals that he never wants to quit making music, which he’s been doing since he was 10 years old. They talk about the viral clip of Destroy Lonely praising D Savage, how he’s influencing the current generation of rappers, and his friendship with Trippie Redd. He says he’s a fan of Glokk40Spaz, who’s previously admitted to being greatly influenced by D Savage. D Savage says he wants to be more like an A&R in the future & talks about his unreleased music with Juice Wrld.
D Savage reveals which upcoming artists he’s listening to right now, like bear1boss and Rugrxt Reese, and talks about focusing on his future. Arshan says D Savage would make a great media personality, and both give their thoughts on the situation at NoJumper, with numerous podcast hosts leaving. They end their conversation with D Savage giving words of advice and encouragement to Arshan & KTO, before providing advice for the youth. Kids Take Over is based in Vancouver, Canada.
