Here I repair severe rust
Here I repair severe rust on my car. Rust is almost always much more severe than it looks so I start by pulverizing it until I find real metal. I then cut it back until I reached solid enough material to weld to. A patch was cut from a salvage vehicle and used to rebuild the affected area. The goal here is obviously not beauty, but functionality.
The rear door sills are notorious for rusting out on the Saturn S-Series cars. Here I patch the REAR sill using a FRONT sill patch cut from a scrap car. The front sill profile matched the rear and is a direct fit. After welding it in I painted it and topcoated with truck bed liner for a durable finish.
