Three returned astronauts have mysteriously gone missing. When the Doctor and Liz become involved they realise that a switch has taken place and the spacesuits that returned from Mars contained aliens not humans. Sir James of the Space Security Department is finally ready to tell the Doctor everything he knows about what's happened, but one of the aliens has other ideas.
