Nolan Ryan has the most career MLB strikeouts.
Part of the reason is that he was intimidating on the mound. Here's a few examples of why Ryan was an intimidating Pitcher. You can either get hit with the baseball or his fists (ask Robin Ventura)...and his curveball played off his inside fastball. And his fastball was one of the fastest of all time (allegedly clocked at 108 mph...but see this video challenging that: Did Nolan Ryan throw 108 mph?
Don't forget, Nolan Ryan also had a nasty changeup too.
