Microsoft Excel Tutorial - Pivot Table 101.

Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel netcast! In this video, we will be diving into the world of Excel Pivot Tables and showing you how to create your first one from scratch. If you're a Facebook user, be sure to check out our group "Excel Pivot Tables Rock!" for more tips and tricks.

Pivot Tables are one of the most powerful features in Excel, allowing you to summarize large amounts of data in just a few clicks. To get started, make sure your data set has headings above each column and no blank rows or columns. Then, go to the Insert tab and click on the PivotTable icon. As long as your data is in Excel, the program will automatically detect it and create a blank Pivot Table for you.

In the past, we used to have to drag fields from the field list onto the report. But with Excel 2007, we now have two sections at the top for fields and at the bottom for drop zones. Simply drag the fields you want from the top to the appropriate drop zone at the bottom. For example, if we want to create a summary of sales by region and product, we would drag the Region field to the Row Labels and the Product field to the Column Labels. Then, choose the data you want to display, such as Revenue, Cost of Goods Sold, or Profit.

One new feature in Excel 2007 is the Auto Formats, which can be found on the Design tab. These allow you to quickly change the appearance of your Pivot Table with just a few clicks. You can also rearrange your fields by dragging them to different drop zones, making it easy to customize your report to your needs.

And that's it! With just a few clicks, you can create a beautiful and informative Pivot Table without having to write a single formula. So next time you need to summarize a large data set, remember to use Pivot Tables and make your life a little easier. Thanks for watching and be sure to check out our other netcasts for more Excel tips and tricks.
