This is a demo of water electrolysis using a Hoffman Voltameter.
We are testing for the gases using a lit splint, hydrogen will 'pop' and oxygen will relight the glowing splint.
The 'water' is actually 1M sulphuric acid but it acts as a catalyst and speeds the practical up (and is still pretty slow!)
Equipment needed:
Hoffman Voltameter (or daniel cell, either works)
1M sulphuric acid
Power Pack set to 12V with wires and crocodile clips
matches and a wooden splint
