So its officially fall season! so officially have my first cold (which means I'll have a cold till end of winter 🙌🏻) I've also been wearing these overalls for the last 1234125 days... no judgement. Also also--to get to the point-- I made a rattan skull, and I wanna show you how.
(this kinda is a tutorial video... but like a lot of mine, its kinda a more difficult how to video..) Like.. its doable. but it was a pain in the asssssssss
I asked you on instagram what I should try to sculpt and the moment I saw skull, I was like, "yuh... that's what I'm doing".
I tried to just shmooosh a pre woven sheet on the skull.. that didn't work. I had to weave it directly to the skull. So I basically just followed the steps of making that rattan weave from my last video.
I superglued each strand of reed to the skull just tracing the shape of the skull. I put them about and inch apart at the center of the face, bit it came to point at the top and bottom of the skull. The didn't soak the reeds in water before hand.. so it wasn't holding its form well... so so I just taped it down.
I then added horizontal stripes that went around the skull about an inch apart ass well. After that i put a vertical stripe right next to the one on bottom.
To do the actually weaving part of this I had to get the skull out.. to do that I soaked the skull in my bathtub for 30 minutes then took it out and made sure all the reeds were snug up against the skull. I had to fix a couple ones.. but then I just let it dry.
With it all dry I could then cut the skull in half and pry the reeds off the skull.. annnnd then... glue it back together... smh. but now its time to weave.
So I wove (I had to good what the past tense of weave is for this video) a horizontal stripe in next to the other horizontal guys by just doing the opposite of what those ones were.
after that was done it was time to do the diagonal stripes... by going under the two horizontal lines and over the two vertical ones... once that is done do the opposite going in the opposite diagonal direction. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the last part I did at my friend Westons shop. I cut a hole in the top and bottom of the skull. I did this cause 1. they were ugly looking cause of the build up of rattan and 2. I needed to get my finger in there so I could glue down some of the reeds that were sticking up.
with the hole nice and cute... I wanted to add like a lil cap or something to make it look nice and clean. After trial and error I decided on doing a lil ring wrapped in reed that fit inside the hole. I super glued that in and used a razor blade to shave it flush to the top.
annnnnnnnnd.. done:) what do you think? should I try another shape? idk?
