Chapter 7: The Failed Arrangements
At the time of our concert, we had a total of 70 or so arrangements in our name. Yet, we have only performed 35 or so ever in public. Sometimes, we thought an arrangement wasn’t good or interesting enough, or perhaps we simply didn’t have the time to practice it. Sometimes, we thought that the piece wouldn’t resonate with our audience. Even after we thought one of our pieces were ready, our performances did not always go as smoothly as we imagined. We've had performances that we reflect on very fondly, but we've also certainly had performances that we collectively cringe about, as live performances go. To give tribute to our tries and failures, the awkward moments before more gratifying moments, this chapter will be represented by Themes from Attack on Titan for Five Cellos, which is a new arrangement that we had never performed in public ever before.
Attack on Titan is an awesome anime series with an incredible soundtrack!
Concert Description:
What do you get when five cellists in the same year from all over the country form a cello band at Columbia University? One incredible musical journey, YouTube covers with tons of viewership, adventures across the country, a fair share of intonation complaints, and most importantly, a group of lifelong musical friends. Four years ago, Steven, Corinna, Nathan, Maddie, and Justin began that adventure as String Theory, "Columbia's Premier Cello Ensemble". But this year, all of us graduated, each with different majors and future plans. We loved our time at Columbia, but this was, for the foreseeable future, our last concert at Columbia. We prepared a special concert program that told our story, structured into 12 chapters that each represent our values, who we are, our journey, the good, the bad, the ugly, and our growth both as individuals and as an ensemble.
