Why Labour won the general election

Sir Keir Starmer has begun putting his cabinet together after storming to victory in the biggest majority since 1997.

The Labour leader, who was appointed prime minister by the King this morning, promised a government “unburdened by doctrine” in his first Downing Street address. Meanwhile, the Conservatives are reeling after the party suffered their worst electoral defeat in history as they were left with just 121 MPs.
