One of the most beautiful (and poisonous) amphibians in the world, we find and catch a wild fire belly newt to learn about their potent toxins, ecological niche, and conservation in today's episode of The Wild Report!
Searching for wildlife in Japan has been one of the most amazing experiences of my career as a conservation biologist, allowing me to experience a completely different landscape, new species, and different land management practices than I'm used to. While the internet is full of information about Japan's culture and urban tourism, my goal with this series is to bring you up close and personal with the wild landscapes and organisms of this incredible island nation. In this episode of our Wild Japan series, we go on a mission to find the rare fire belly newt!
