Xử lý Bom MK82 nặng gần 230kg tại Quảng Trị - Deactivate a MK82-500lb bomb in Quang Tri

On 12 January 2022, responding to the request from Quang Tri Mine Action Center, MAG deployed an Emergency Response Team to An Nha village of Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province to deal with a MK82-500lb bomb. This deadly item was discovered upright underground by the military force while excavating to search for the remains of martyrs from the Vietnam War. The bomb was located right below a high-voltage power grid and 70m away from local houses. Had the bomb detonated, there may have been devastation over a large area. Following the sighting of the bomb, the military force immediately stopped their work. The issue was quickly reported to the local authority and later to MAG. On the site, after careful investigation and assessment, MAG’s expert determined that the bomb was safe to move. It was then transported to a controlled demolition site and disposed of safely on the next day. The successful removal of the bomb enabled the military to resume their work safely.
