Wild pigs are running amok across large parts of the US, causing an estimated $1.5 billion in damage each year. In Louisiana alone more than 500,000 of the feral hogs are thought to be on the loose.
The animals - which can weigh up to 400lbs - reproduce quickly, have no natural predators and adapt to survive in any environment. As well as the damage they cause to agricultural land, the wild hogs pose a public health risk because they can be riddled with disease. Benjamin Zand from BBC Pop Up talked to farmers, trappers and scientists in Louisiana about the most effective - and humane - way to control the feral pig population.
