Swarna Mallawarachchi, a Sri Lankan film actress, was born on August 1, 1948 (Sinhala). Swarna, who is frequently referred to as the "Golden star of Sinhalese cinema," started her acting career in the popular 1966 movie Sath Samudura, which was directed by Siri Gunasinghe. Swarna has won the "Best Actress Award" 26 times over the course of a career lasting more than 40 years, which is a record for a Sri Lankan actress.

She worked on the handwritten school magazine "Pipena Kumudu" with her buddy Kanthi Kalyani Atugoda throughout her time in school. She displayed her skills in the magazine.

Swarna briefly left Sri Lankan cinema in the 1970s to live abroad. There was a surge of new actresses when she came back after a four-year sabbatical. Even though Swarna accepted supporting roles from directors during this time, she won Best Actress awards for them.

She portrayed "Ranmali" in the title character of Vasantha Obeysekera's thriller/drama Dadayama in 1983. She earned the Best Actress prize at the Sarasaviya Awards for the performance after earning favorable reviews from the critics.

Since 2004, she has served as the UNHCR's ambassador for women's rights in Sri Lanka.

Swarna's really special part as an on-screen character is obvious in movies such as Vasantha Obeysekera's Dadayama (The Hunt) and Kadapathaka Chayava (Reflections within the Reflect), Dharmasiri Bandaranayake's Suddhilage Kathawa (The Story of Suddhi) and Bava Duka / Bava Karma, Sumitra Peries' Sagara Jalaya (Letter Composed within the Sand) and Prasanna Vithanage's Anantha Rathriya (Dull Night of the Soul).
