Dec Hogan Spey Fishing the McKenzie River For Summer Steelhead

This was a day where I took Dec Hogan and his wife Amy out spey fishing for summer run steelhead on the McKenzie River. They were visiting on there way to the redwoods to fish the Trinity River, and they stopped by to fish with me. Dec had a fish boil on a dry fly and stuck it for a few head shakes on a wet fly following through. Amy hooked up with a really hot fish that jumped a huge air, and eventually threw the hook. I landed one fish, and managed to briefly hook up another time. We fished for a short session before they were on their way again. A fun morning of steelheading on Oregon's beautiful McKenzie River. It was also super amazing to get to fish with Dec Hogan on my most familiar home river. Watching Dec Hogan spey fishing the McKenzie River for steelhead was something I never imagined when I was a University of Oregon college student.
