Basics of Dow Theory in Stock Market
The Dow Theory is a financial theory that says the market is in an upward trend if one of its averages (industrials or transportation) advances above a previous important high and is accompanied or followed by a similar advance in another average. For example, if the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) climbs to an intermediate high, an investor might watch the Dow Jones Transportation Average (DJTA) climb to confirm an upward trend.
There are 6 tenants of Dow theory
1 Price discounts everything
2 Overall there are 3 broad market trends.
3 Volumes must confirm
4 All Indices must confirm with each other.
5 The closing price is the most sacred.
6 Trend Persists until a clear reversal occurs.
