In a decisive move to assert greater control over its natural resources, Niger has revoked the operating license of French nuclear fuel producer Orano at the Imouraren uranium mine, one of the world's largest. This landmark decision underscores the ruling junta's commitment to nationalizing key assets and ensuring that the country's rich mineral wealth benefits its citizens.

The Imouraren mine, located in northern Niger, holds an estimated 200,000 tonnes of uranium, a crucial resource for nuclear power and weaponry. By revoking Orano's license, the Nigerien government is paving the way for the nationalization of the mine, marking a significant shift towards greater economic sovereignty and self-reliance.
