My mom had an appointment to take Caymus into KC Cat Clinic because his ear was irritated. But we noticed it was swollen and realized he couldn't wait another day, so we took him to the emergency vet, VCA Mission Animal Referral and Emergency Center. They found yeast and bacteria in both ears, so he's being treated for both. Also, got a steroid to help with inflammation. He's had ear flare ups before but nothing as severe as this. They shaved his ear to get a better look at the scene. He looks like he has an ear of a sphynx (sp!). He was a good kitty and the doc and staff at VCA Mission were great. Thank you to them!
Caymus, my parents’ 12-year old Ragdoll cat, has seasonal allergy flare-ups where he will scratch right above his eye and below his eye and sometimes it becomes raw – that’s when we notice it. And you can usually slap on some coconut oil and it’s taken care of.
However, this flare-up became much worse.
My mom had an appointment to take Caymus into KC Cat Clinic on a Monday because his ear was irritated and nothing we were doing was helping it. But by Sunday, we noticed his left ear was swollen (about 3 times the thickness of his right ear), so we took him to the emergency vet, VCA Mission Animal Referral and Emergency Center.
After a cytlology in both ears, they found yeast and bacteria in both ears, so he’s being treated for both – with an ear flush, Triz EDTA, and an antiobiotic, Otomax. Also, he got an intravenous steroid, Dexamethasone Sp 4mg/ml, to help with inflammation. They shaved his ear to get a better look at the scene. He was a good kitty and the doc and staff at VCA Mission were great. Here is a video I captured of Abby, the vet tech, showing me how to flush his ear every 48 hours with Triz EDTA.
He is already doing 100x better – this was the difference in his ear just after 24 hours (swelling was gone and so was the redness): .
