Third Night and Third Day, from the opera "Gilgamesh" by Per Nørgård

"Gilgamesh" is the second opera by Danish composer Per Nørgård.  Nørgård structures the old Babylonian saga as small tableaux, each represents Day, Evening, or Night.  The music is derived from a mathematical procedure called the "infinity series", yet the result is far from arid or academic.  Listen to the alluring "Soundwaves of the Forest" that makes up the "Third Night" of the opera, then comes the "Third Day", where Gilgamesh sings the fragmentary, syllabic text typical of the opera.

Performed by the Orchestra and Choir of the Swedish Radio conducted by Tamás Vető.  Gilgamesh is sung by tenor Björn Haugan.
