Off-Grid Cabin in the Winter Forest - E.1 - Freezing Rain Trek & Tiny Home Tour: Driving on icy forest access roads deep in Ontario's Haliburton Highlands, we were about to begin a 3.5km winter trek that would bring us to an off-grid cabin, a tiny home nestled into a Hemlock forest on a beautiful, undeveloped, backcountry lake. I hoped to explore the area and ice fish for Trout. On this outdoor adventure, freezing rain started to come down particularly hard after we finished the sketchy drive as we prepared our kids for family adventure and loaded our survival gear onto toboggans. Camping with kids and trekking with kids can have its challenges. Clad in full rain gear, everything was turning to ice on our bodies and all over our dry bags by the time we started walking to the off-grid tiny home. Our Husky puppy North was pulling a dog sled too, it was his first time coming along on a real trek so we were doing some dog training along the way.

Still pouring freezing rain on our arrival at the cabin, we share a cabin tour before loading in all of our gear. Much of our outfit, including our outdoor clothing was soaked so I strung a clothes line up over the propane cook stove to dry some stuff out, and then my wife Tori shared a great camping recipe for chili mac and cheese!
