Removed truss rod nut, clamped neck down 3/16 in a back bow and applied steam and heat for 2 hours. Clamped down another 1/16 so a total of 1/4 inch down in the center from the ends. Tightened truss rod nut and enclosed steam and heat with towels and a board and left for another 12 hours. Removed steam and heat and left for 3 days. The result was a definite back bow and under string tension still needed 2 full turns counter clockwise with the truss rod to put back some relief. The bass has good action now.
To update, if you cover the area to start and use an oven thermometer to maintain 190-200 degrees for 4 hours then cool for 4 hours the neck will hold any position that you clamp it in, try to clamp it in the exact spot of the bend and you may need to do it a few times for specific spots. Finally I positioned the clamp on the low side with enough room to put a straight edge to find the exact spot or two to clamp. I oil the neck after every time even with the humidifier on high it can still dry the neck to where you will get some fret sprout but it gets better in time. SoundCloud: thats-playin
