What is neutron? you probably want to know its answer.

In 1920 the nucleus was viewed as composed of combinations of protons and electrons, the two elementary particles known at the time.

But that model presented several experimental and theoretical contradictions

The essential nature of the atomic nucleus was established with the discovery of the neutron by James Chadwick n 1932

The discovery of the neutron causes a lot of impact on the world which finally led the world to create nuclear power and nuclear weapons.

So these are little information of the history of the neutron. Now let’s roll to the definition.

Question: What is neutron?
Anwer: A neutron is a subatomic particle found in the nucleus of every atom.

The neutron is the particle in the atomic nucleus with a mass = 1 and charge = 0.

Although a neutron has a net neutral electrical charge, it does consist of charged components which cancel each other out with respect to charge.

The number of neutrons in an atom determines its isotope.
It has no electric charge and a rest mass equal to 1.67493 × 10−27 kg—marginally greater than that of the proton but nearly 1839 times greater than that of the electron.

The neutrons exist in the nuclei of typical atoms, along with their positively charged counterparts, the protons.

Neutrons and protons, commonly called nucleons, are bound together in the atomic nucleus, where they account for 99.9 percent of the atom’s mass.

Although it's possible to eject neutrons from the nucleus, the free particles don't last long before reacting with other atoms.

On average, a neutron survives on its own about 15 minutes.
