The Tuckman Model of Group Development is the best known, most widely used model of group formation.
Describes the evolution from a group of individuals to a team.
Tuckman asserts the rhyme is the reason for the success of his model – sometimes called the ‘orming model’ – but this model is at the perfect sweet spot.
We will look at alternative models later in the course.
The 5 Stages of the Tuckman Model
• Forming
• Storming
• Norming
• Performing
• Mourning/Adjourning

1. Think about your experiences in teams that have come together and evolved. To what extent do you recognize the stages of the Tuckman model? (2 MC CPD Points)
2. Where in the group development lifecycle is the team you are leading/in now? What would you/the leader need to do to move it towards the performing stage? (3 MC CPD Points)
