Arkansas-based Evolve Bank & Trust has confirmed a data breach that exposed customer information. According to statements from the bank and cybersecurity researchers, it appears hacking group LockBit ransomware is responsible for stealing gigabytes of data from Evolve's systems.

On June 26th, Evolve Bank publicly acknowledged a "cybersecurity incident" involving unauthorized access to customer records. In a press release, bank leadership said the breach is currently contained and ongoing monitoring indicates no continued threat. However, they confirmed a "known cybercriminal organization", which all signs point to being LockBit, had illegally obtained and released personal information of some customers.
That stolen data was then posted on dark web sites for all to see.

Information exposed in the breach may have included names, social security numbers, dates of birth, account details, and other personal identifying facts. Worryingly, the bank said this accessed data varies between customers, so the full scope is still unknown.
