The Baltic Sea is spread over an area of approximately 3 lakh 86 thousand square kilometers. It is surrounded by nine countries: Denmark, Germany, Poland,
Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Finland and Sweden. It is separated from the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean through Denmark. The Gulf of Finland, Gulf of Bothnia and Gulf of Riga are the major local water bodies present in this sea. It is considered to be the largest peninsula of moderately salty water.
