Stupid Anmo Laws in Canada

#canada has some really dumb #ammo #law

For instance, a standard #AR #magazine can only have 5 cartridges, whereas a #pistol magazine can only have 10. But these laws govern #centerfire cartridge magazines, so why are #ruger #bx25 #rimfire magazines limited to 10 rounds instead of 25?

Compare that against the #GSG16 which is also a rimfire rifle, and can accept 22 round standard stick mags, and even a 110 round drum mag! Same #ammunition but completely different arbitrary restrictions just because the same magazine can be used in Ruger's #charger pistol.

The law actually specifically states center fire cartridges, not rimfire. And, it also talks about what kind of firearm the magazine is designed for. Because the BX magazine can fit in the 10/22, and because the 10/22 was around LONG before the charger pistol which was only introduced in 2007 (compare that to 1964 for the 10/22) it can be argued that the BX mag was intended for the 10/22, and not the charger, thereby making the decision to ban more than 10 rounds in the magazine completely arbitrary.
