The Dutch-American Friendship Treaty, also known as DAFT, is an agreement between the Netherlands and the United States that allows US investors and entrepreneurs to acquire residency for starting a business.

4 DAFT Treaty Conditions
Apart from the conditions that apply to all investors in the Netherlands concerning their start-up project, one the following are relevant for American nationals who apply for residence under the DAFT:
The applicant does business between the United States and the Netherlands.
The applicant develops and leads a company in the Netherlands and has invested a significant capital in the company.

These are three important criteria when applying for the self-employed visa when making a proposal for investment in the Netherlands. Each of the three criteria is evaluated as part of a scoring system with a total of 300 points. At least 90 points are needed, 30 for each part, for the start-up project to be taken into consideration.

6 Representing an American company
US citizens can apply for the DAFT visa if they represent an American company and are employed by that legal entity in a key position.

7 Liberal profession
US nationals who lead a general business can also carry out a liberal profession, unless they have a public duty or a position in healthcare or the public sector.

• The Business Registration Certificate.
• Application fee proof of payment.
• Personal identification documents.
• Other documents, as needed (these can include proof of relevant experience, the business plan, and other registrations.)
