Welcome to BSH’s Traunreut site. We’ve been making innovative home appliances here since 1967. In 2012, the team reorganised the entirety of the site’s internal logistics. Today this site sets an industry-wide benchmark. Let us show you around.
The conceptional work at BSH Traunreut is based on three pillars. A logistics concept, a value stream concept and a layout concept.
A value-stream example: The old system contained an intermediate storage stage between manufacturing processes. The new one proves to be easier and more fluid: reducing storage stages and cycle times.
The site layout is optimized for the flow of materials. What’s new is that assembly line workers receive their parts demand-based, with no walking or reaching distances. Now they only need to install their parts. The assembly lines are 40% more compact and waste is entirely eliminated from the production.
Another highlight of the logistic concept at BSH Traunreut: For bulk parts the site utilizes the so-called ‘pick by light’. Staff’s operational steps are secured by a lamp system. Now, one only needs to take out the correct component, confirm and wait for the green light.
The Traunreut site can supply assembly with material at high speed and works like an industrial supermarket: Within two hours the parts can be gathered in one place. A real highlight, within the course of this long-term project, is the fully automated, ultra-modern small-parts warehouse. It will completely replace prospective pick-processes for small parts. The advantages are clear: quicker availability, greater efficiency and improved ergonomics.
