For info on how to set up for drawing sight size from the flat, check out my other youtube videos. This video includes some instruction and I try to verbalize my thought process. This is how I draw a "cartoon" or preliminary drawing for a painting. I then transfer this drawing to the canvas. THE MORE TIME YOU SPEND AT THE BEGINNING BEING SLOW AND DELIBERATE AND CHECKING YOURSELF, the less time it will take overall. If you are referencing this for bargue drawing - normally we would push the linear portion of this drawing further and then when we fill in the shadow shapes we fill them all the way in, and in one solid mass. I am being rough with my fill in because I get lazy at the end of drawing for 4 hours. Process: - start with a single vertical plumb - begin with singular clear lines for large proportions and things that are easy to see - use straight lines - keep your pencil SHARP, sharpen often - STAY SIMPLE - constantly check yourself with measurements, alignments, etc - start to build additional marks off of the simplified double-checked marks - add additional information in stages, building up to complexity (we call this articulation) - max out what you can find with line - stay straight line-y and structural as long as possible - continue to correct and assess as you go - SLOW DOWN - when you have maxed out what you can do with line, filling in shadow shapes with a solid value can help you to see additional adjustments
