Dental implants are one of the most commonly used methods to replace missing teeth on a long term basis due to its high success rate. Placement of the dental implant is a surgical procedure and its successful placement requires adequate knowledge about different components of it.

A healing period of a couple of months in most cases is required so that proper osseointegration can occur of the implant with the alveolar bone. Sometimes, an immediate loading implant can also be used where right after extraction, an implant is placed.
