How to build a Rocker Plate for an Indoor Trainer using Tennis Balls. You can easily build this with minimal tools. Just make sure you have good quality tennis balls.

I originally tried to attach the central guides with only hot glue, but that was not strong enough so I ended up screwing it to the wood. The circular hot glue is just to keep the balls from moving too much but I wanted as much natural movement as possible by not fixing anything together.

This Rocker Plate offers plenty of movement and in the test at the end I got up and gave it quite a sprint. You could see the actually base plate move around on the tiles (I will just add hot glue at the bottom to make them grip more) but the tennis balls all stay put.

This design allows for plenty of movement of the trainer and makes the whole indoor trainer experience feel much more natural. You could also just remove 1 x tennis ball from each side to give it more sway but I found the 3 I had each side, to be more than enough.

The electrical tape on the wheel protects the tire and I will replace it every second or third ride. It ALSO grips the trainer roller much better and does not slip under high power.
