Galathea Bay Wildlife Sanctuary lies on the tip of Great Nicobar Island, the southernmost island of Andaman and Nicobar archipelago. Isolated from the mainland, four species of turtles nest along its pristine coast, including the world’s largest, the leatherback. However, in January 2021 the protected status of the sanctuary was canceled for the construction of a transshipment port.

The leatherbacks have built nests here for millions of years. If the development of the port goes through, will the turtles return?
