A deadly algae bloom off the coast of Florida has killed thousands of sea creatures. It first started in October 2017, and is the region’s worst in over a decade. Similar blooms occur around the world and are known as "red tides" for their frequent rust-red coloration. The algae’s toxins have killed many varieties of fish, as well as manatees, dolphins, turtles, and more. The cause of Florida’s intense bloom, and when it might end, is unclear.
