What does it take to cause FaceID on the iPhone X to fail. Can you trick it using fake eyebrows, beards or masks? That's the question that I had for myself and set out to answer in this video. I've already tried adding Monty (my dog) for use with FaceID and I didn't have much success. Apparently the iPhone X is smart enough to differentiate between a dog's face and a human face. Check out my latest iPhone X case review: https://www.seevid.ir/fa/w/MftdrUjHAfc So I tried tricking FaceID using the following: Darth Vader Mask SuperMan Mask Fake Eyebrows Fake Sideburns Fake Moustache Fake Beard Fake Nose With the masks, neither of them registered with FaceID. I though the Superman Mask might prompt FaceID to do something but it detected that my face was obstructed. Guess the A11 Bionic chip with Neural Networks is working? The fake eyebrows surprised me as I thought that wouldn't cause FaceID to fail BUT it did. Mind you the eyebrows were much bushier than my actual eyebrows. I'm guessing that the iPhone X realized that my eyebrows probably couldn't have increased in volume naturally in a span of an hour? After the eyebrows, I went with the fake sideburns and I was expecting that to fail but it didn't. I could even unlock the iPhone X with a side look. The fake sideburns looked worse than the fake eyebrows so that was confusing to me. The Super Mario moustache didn't work either and this was to be expected. I didn't think something that covered up 1/4 of my face would allow my iPhone to be unlocked. The fake beard was totally expected to cause FaceID to fail. Now what was interesting was the fact that trying to add FaceID using the beard was a little more difficult as the iPhone X kept thinking my face was obstructed. It was but I imagine people with actual beards might have a bit more trouble adding their face to FaceID. Similar to the fake beard, the fake nose totally didn't work out. At all. Also, the fake nose smelt pretty bad. Now I was wondering if an actual IR light would do anything to the FaceID sensor. I review smarthome gadgets as well and the LIFX+ bulb is an IR light that improves the range of smarthome security cameras. This was the test I was looking forward to the most and nothing happened. Boo urns. The last thing I discovered was that FaceID had a maximum range of 66 cm's. For me, that was a little outside of my arm range. I'm not sure what I would do with this information but now I know! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to stay in the loop!
