3D animation of the surgical steps involved in a laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedure beginning with the patient prepped and drapped in the operating room. The surgery begins with initial insertion of a trocar through the umbilicus and insufflation of the abdomen with carbon dioxide gas. Filling the abdominal cavity with gas allows access to the gallbladder, a space for the laparoscopic tools to operate and a field of vision for the surgeon. Three additional incisions are made to insert trocars for the laparoscopic instruments. Instruments are used to mobilize the liver and gallbladder superiorly, as the surgeon inspects for the triangle of calot. The expected area for the triangle of calot is identified and the infundibulum of the gallblladder is retracted laterally. Fascia around the infundibulum and cystic duct is dissected as surgical clips are applied to the perceived cystic duct and finally the duct is cut.
