Jazz enthusiast Fred Brewer used an early Philips cassette recorder to capture the exhilarating playing of Pedro Harris and the Pine City Stompers at live gigs throughout 1963 at the Friday night jazz sessions in the Concorde Jazz Club, Southampton.
Not surprisingly, the sound quality isn’t perfect but Fred has managed to captured the lively atmosphere of the club and the musicality and enthusiasm of the band. It must have been a great night and I wish I'd been there!
Led by Pedro Harris on clarinet, the Stompers were very popular in the South of England for many years and always started their gigs with this scintillating number. In the 1970’s, Pedro together with banjoist Dave Broomfield and others were wowing jazz enthusiasts across the country, playing as The Mission Hall Jazz Band.
