Surah 'Abasa (Arabic: عبس) is the 80th chapter of the Quran. This surah is classified as a Makkiyah surah which consists of 42 verses. It is named 'Abasa which is taken from the word 'Abasa which is found in the first verse of this surah. According to history, once upon a time the Prophet Muhammad received and spoke with Quraysh leaders whom he hoped would convert them to Islam. Meanwhile came Ibn Ummi Maktum, a blind friend who hoped that the Prophet Muhammad would read to him the verses of the Koran that had been revealed by Allah. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ surly and looked away from the blind Ibn Ummi Maktum, then Allah sent down this letter as a rebuke for the attitude of the Messenger of Allah towards Ibn Ummi Maktum.

Surah 'Abasa (bahasa Arab:عبس) adalah surah ke-80 dalam Al-Qur'an. Surah ini tergolong surah Makkiyah yang terdiri atas 42 ayat. Dinamakan 'Abasa yang diambil dari kata 'Abasa yang terdapat pada ayat pertama surah ini. Menurut riwayat, pada suatu ketika Rasulullah ﷺ menerima dan berbicara dengan pemuka-pemuka Quraisy yang dia harapkan agar mereka masuk Islam. Dalam pada itu datanglah Ibnu Ummi Maktum, seorang sahabat yang buta yang mengharap agar Rasulullah ﷺ membacakan kepadanya ayat-ayat Al Quran yang telah diturunkan Allah. Tetapi Rasulullah ﷺ bermuka masam dan memalingkan muka dari Ibnu Ummi Maktum yang buta itu, lalu Allah menurunkan surat ini sebagai teguran atas sikap rasulullah terhadap ibnu Ummi Maktum itu.
