Would you believe that vocal nightingale Lata Mangeshkar initially avoided that musician considering him to be a spoiled prince, but later started considering him as her dearest brother.
And would you believe that this musician returned even after twenty-nine years of his death and his music was given voice by his sister.
After all, why was this musician, who is called the king of miraculous tunes, not honored with any award? After all, why did this musician enter his own house like a thief? In exchange for which tune of his, Naushad Saheb had expressed his willingness to give away his entire musical treasure? And why did this great composer who composed velvet music not get the recognition he deserved?There is also a good incident from Madan Mohan's childhood days, Madan Mohan's father used to live in Marine Lines in Mumbai. The adjacent house belonged to Nargis's mother Jaddan Bai. Whenever Madan Mohan came to visit Mumbai, his love for music always attracted him. Madan Mohan used to quietly leave the house every night after his father slept and attend the neighborhood music festival.
This musical gathering used to be held at Jaddan Bai's house in the neighbourhood. When Madan Mohan returned after enjoying Jaddan Bai's party, he used to enter his own house like a thief. Out of fear of his father, he would enter the house from the back door and sleep quietly in his room. This sequence continued for a long time but the family members were never even aware of it. During this time, he also became a close friend of Nargis.
In the year 1943, on the advice of his father, Madan Mohan Saheb joined the army. His initial training took place in Dehradun and after some time he was posted in Delhi. After two years, he was no longer interested in army service. As soon as he got the first opportunity, he left his army job and came into the world of music.Han musician O.P. Nair, who never made Lata ji sing a single song in her entire career, used to praise their pairing. He said, I don't know whether Lata Mangeshkar was made for Madan Mohan or Madan Mohan for Lata Mangeshkar, but till now there has been neither a musician like Madan Mohan nor a singer like Lata.
Asha Bhosle often complained to Madan Mohan that - why do you take only Lata didi for all your films, on this Madan Mohan used to say that as long as Lata is alive, she will sing the songs of my films. However, in many films, Madan Mohan Saheb has made Asha Bhosle ji sing excellent songs. Madan Mohan was awarded the National Award for Best Musician for the 1967 film Naunihal and the 1970 film Dastak. Parvana in the year 1972 and Laughing Jakham in the year 1973 were one of the most unique creations of Madan Mohan Saheb's life.
This melodious musician, who created a special place in the hearts of the listeners with his melodious musical waves, said goodbye to this world on July 14, 1975. After his death, films like Mausam and Laila Majnu were released.
The magic of whose music still mesmerizes the listeners. Madan Mohan's son Sanjeev Kohli played his father's unused tunes to Yash Chopra. Out of which eight compositions of Madan Mohan were used in the film 'Veer-Zaara' released in 2004. All the songs of this film have been sung by Lata Mangeshkar and like every time, this brother-sister duo has composed timeless songs. Even after Madan Mohan's death, Lata Mangeshkar kept her promise.
