The concept and role of ether in physics are much more than what is usually mentioned in physics books. In ancient Greece, attention to the invisible world began with myths. In Greek belief, ether was an extraterrestrial substance that filled the upper world or heaven. The physical concept of ether entered natural philosophy and later became universal. Descartes was the first to use ether to explain the mechanical behavior of bodies. When Newton combined natural philosophy with mathematics, he used the ether as the inertial framework and medium for the transmission of gravity. After the development of quantum mechanics, physicists faced phenomena that cannot be explained in the observable world and must be explained in the non-obvious world. Some physicists believe that the ether can help solve today's physics problems with a new definition.
