The construction sector is still one of the largest CO2 emitters in cities. However, large CO2 savings have already been achieved in this area through regulations and technological innovations, especially new buildings. In Vienna it is often public buildings such as schools or social housing that set new standards. It is noteworthy that different technological approaches are currently being pursued in parallel: passive houses, + energy houses, low tech buildings, innovative wooden structures, etc. What all approaches have in common is that they combine high energy standards with high quality of living and use. The trend to scale these approaches through digitization and prefabrication is relatively new. In this session, selected construction projects will be presented that combine ecological building, digitization and prefabrication in an innovative way.
