A landfill in Monterrey, in the North of Mexico, extracts the bio gas that is formed from decaying organic garbage to produce electricity. The project has already prevented the emission of about 1 million tons of CO2, which is equivalent to the emissions of about 186,000 cars. By doing this, the project generates carbon credits, which it then sells to the Danish Carbon Fund at the World Bank. With that money, they can maintain the modern technology in the landfill, and give solar panels to local schools.
