ME 144L Vibration Modeling; Mass-Spring-Damper Systems

This lecture introduces basic vibration modeling of a mass-spring-damper system, and the use of a single story (one degree of freedom) lab setup. The model will be used to guide determination of model parameters (mass, stiffness, damping) with the lab work providing an opportunity to use an accelerometer for motion measurement and continued practice of digital data acquisition and signal processing. In particular, a log-decrement method for estimating damping in an underdamped system will be reviewed. In
