The gum suture serves as wound closure, e.g. after oral surgeries. For a long time no sutures were made and the oral wounds had to heal without stitching. This might lead to increased scar formation. Therefore it is useful to suture wound edges. Every wound suture can cause inflammations. Bacteria can get to the wound along the suture like a wick. Therefore absorbable sutures should be removed out of the mouth after a few days. http://www.checkdent.com
