1D50.25 - Conical Pendulum

Demonstrates the motion of a conical pendulum. Spin up pendulum, be sure not to spin it to fast or you will hit the sides of the base. Once you can see a nice rotation from the pendulum stop the hand driven rotator. Watch the pendulum spin while the rotator is at rest. The pendulum is on a spring steel rod and not a string causing the period of the pendulum to be damped. This decreases the radius of the base of the cone that is traced out by the motion of the pendulum.
